Tips for searching our catalog

We're doing the best we can to prepare the online catalog for you to find things, but many of our product entries come from different sources and understanding what we have in the catalog may help you find what you want faster.

Length of search words

At the current time, words must be a minimum of 3 letters to used in a search. That means, you can search for "red" or "red 260Q". However, searching for "11 red" will find lots of red balloons, but will not limit the results to those that are 11 inches.

What is a word?

Letters and numbers can make up words. "Red", "blue", "260", and "260Q" are all examples of words. Capitalization isn't important. "Red" and "red" will yield the same results. Punctuation and special symbols are ignored in searches.

Partial matches of words - wildcards

The * wildcard can be placed at the end of a word. Searching for "balloon*" would find any word beginning with "balloon". This means it would also find "balloons" and "balloonicature".

Improving the quality of results

You usually don't want 18 pages of results for "blue 260". By default, the system will return everything that contains either "blue" or "260". You can use a "+" to indicate that a word must be in the search results. Searching for "+blue +260" will find only things that contain both words. You can use a "-" to indicate that a word must not be present in the results. So you can search for "+blue +260 -pale". That will find all blue 260s except pale blue.

Specific words to use

Some abbreviations are very common in the catalog. Where possible, we've expanded the abbreviations or added other keywords to improve searches. However, you may have some trouble finding things if we've missed making the corrections. Here are some words that you may find useful in your searches:

rnd = round
tradl = traditional
ast = assorted
asst = assorted
